TV Watching Doubles the Risk of Asthma in Kids

In a recent study it was found that toddlers who watch TV for more than 2 hours of a day had the risk of getting Asthma nearly doubled by the time they were 11 1/2 years old.

The research was carried out in the United Kingdom. It looked at the health of 3000 children from birth to age 11. The researchers state that TV watching may not be the cause per se but a marker for a sedentary lifestyle. It is theorized that exercise in early life likely strengthens the lungs thus decreasing the risk of asthma.

New Exercise Guidelines to Aid Weight Loss and Prevent Re-gain

The American College of Sports Medicine has issued new guidelines on exercise namely increasing physical activity to lose weight and keep it off from 30 minutes a day to 50 minutes a day 5 days a week.

In a report published in the New England Journal of Medicine, it was concluded that it’s not what you eat but how much that’s more important for weight loss.

Researchers evaluated four diets on 811 men and women over a two year period. Two of the diets were with 20% of total calories from fat, and two were with 40% of total calories from fat. All of the diets were heart healthy, which were rich in fruits, vegetables and wholegrain products and low in saturated fat.
